Grappling Rules

Uniform

  • Gig division competitors must wear:

    • Judo Gi or Brazilian Jujitsu Kimono.
  • Non-Gi division competitors must wear:

    • Draw-string shorts.
    • T-shirt, rash guard or no shirt.
    • Wrestling shoes cannot be worn.

Competition

  • True Double Elimination.

Winning

  • First Round - 3 Minutes:

    • Win by Submission only.
  • Second Round - 2 Minute Overtime:

    • Win by Points or Submission.
  • Third Round - 1 Minute Sudden-Death Overtime:

    • First Takedown Wins.
  • Any Round:

    • Win by Disqualification of Opponent (2 fouls or at the discretion of the referee).

Second Round Points

  • Takedown:

    • 2 Points if the takedown goes from standing to a position of advantage.
    • 1 Point if the takedown goes from standing to a neutral position.
  • Gaining a position of advantage:

    • 1 Point for gaining a top mount, side mount or back control with hooks in.
  • Escaping a position of advantage:

    • 1 Point for going from a disadvantaged position to a neutral position.
  • Reversal of position:

    • 2 Point for going from a disadvantaged position to an advantaged position.

Legal Techniques

All finishing techniques must be applied in manner.  Finishing techniques applied in a jerking, jolting or non-gradual manner will result in immediate disqualification.

  • Chokes, neck cranks, jaw and chin cranks.
  • Straight or twisting arm bars, key locks, shoulder locks and wrist locks.
  • Knee, foot, compression and straight ankle locks.
  • Heel hooks and knee bars are permitted only in advanced divisions.

Illegal Techniques

Illegal techniques will result in either 1 foul or immediate disqualification, at the referee's discretion.

  • Strikes of any kind.
  • Submissions not applied in a slow, gradual manner.
  • Hair pulling.
  • Body slams from guard above waist high.
  • Causing the opponent to land on his head.
  • Intentionally attempting to injure the opponent with a throw or takedown.
  • Touching or contact to the eyes.
  • Touching or contact to the groin.
  • Biting, fish-hooking, small joint manipulation (grabbing individual fingers or toes, or wrenching the ears or nose, etc.).
  • Thumbing, scratching, pinching or pulling skin.
  • Applying any slippery substance to the body, hair or uniform.
  • Cursing, arguing with the referee or general bad attitude.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct.

Interpretation of the rules is at the sole discretion of the tournament officials.  All decisions are final.
