Clicker Rules

Clicker fighting is Kyokushin's version of non-contact point fighting.  Each Clicker fight lasts two minutes, without stopping.  The two referees each hold two counters, one for each fighter, and uses them to count the scoring techniques of each competitor (hence the name "Clicker").  The one with the most points at the end of the two minute round wins the fight.

Protective Equipment

All competitors will be required to wear the following equipment:

  • Hand Gear (Cloth or vinyl "Safe-T-Punch") - minimum 1/2" thick padding
  • Shin and Instep Pads (Cloth or vinyl "Safe-T-Punch")
  • Head Gear (no metal allowed)
  • Mouth Guard
  • Groin Cup (for all male competitors)

Match Time Limit

Each match shall be 2 continuous minutes in duration, with no extensions.  The match will not be stopped when points are scored.

Target Areas

Points will be scored for clean, controlled, non-contact techniques to the following target areas:

  • Side or top of head - one fist distance away from the opponent's head.  Contact is not permitted.
  • Body (chest, abdomen or back only) - one inch away from the opponent's body or closer.  Touching the uniform is permitted, but contact is not permitted.

Criteria for Decision

The competitor who scores the most legal techniques during the match wins the fight.  All decisions by the referees are final.

Illegal Techniques

  • Attacks to the groin or spine.
  • Any contact to the face or head.
  • Contact to the body (other than lightly touching the opponent's uniform).
  • Grabbing, holding or Judo-type throws.
  • Kicks below the waist area.
  • Leg sweeps.
  • Elbow or open hand strikes.
  • Excessive out-of-bounds (running out of the ring).
  • Striking an opponent when he or she is down.
  • Any uncontrolled techniques to the head area (i.e. spinning hook kicks, etc.).
  • Any "unsportsmanlike" conduct.

Interpretation of the rules is at the sole discretion of the tournament officials.  All decisions are final.
